And I don't know about you, but I ain't spending next half an hour looking through them all, just to maybe find some coordinates. If you hit a decent library-themed dungeon, you can easily carry out 30-40+ books. The titles are complete mess, way too long at times and look bad in the inventory. I don't know about how exactly other people read that kind of mish-mash text about nothing in particular, but for me - as a non-native speaker - reading something like this causes an actual headache few lines in. Instead, seeing references to game mechanics, like dice throws or PV, works in the exact opposite way - makes it instantly recognizable and breaks any immersion about where the text came from.īut it is even worse than that. Would still be out of place, but at least aimed towards the stated goal of making the text seem distant in origin. If it was at least some random text about the maintenance of a early 20th century soviet radio equipment, it would maybe serve as a an inject of unusual technical vocabulary and jargon. The inclusion of the manual text is a truelly bizzare choice. There is no distinguishable style traced in any of those, that can bind the book to certain aera or faction. Sometimes they mention specific dates and I have a single clue was it yesterday or few generations ago.Īnd as far as I red those books, I suspect that only one library is existant. They are simply writings and not very interesting ones. Therefore, as a player, I fail to perceive books as ancient writings. Easily find the units who need slabs in order to not become ghosts. Well, except for introduction which I promptly forgot about.įor me, the concept of time is limited by "Is it bright outside?" DFHack 50.11-r2 released Highlights: Search Search Search, Preserve tomb assignments, Collapse all for stocks screen, Automatic tomb zones, Stranded citizen alert. Neither do I recall game ever announcing me which day it was month or year. Months - this is a separate topic that requires (and actually has) a steamguide dedicated solely to that concept. How years are measured? I have no idea, I just know that they are PP that are measured backwards. Second problem is absolute lack of concept of time. Including help files explaining game mechanics into the generator might probably get a few giggles, but the idea was to create lore - not a procedurially generated stand-up-comedy, aye? And that failed gloriously.įor me the problem was the breaking of 4th wall. Idea was to provide randomly generated lore books, that are difficult to read due to translation errors/meaning lost in time/whatever else. Would honestly prefer if it was replaced with a generic "boring book" item. So, fuck that guy.Originally posted by Kaaven:I actually find the gibberish books to be the number one immersion-breaking part of the game and hate them with passion. On the other, he intentionally troll-baited the edgelord contingent of his following into harassing a- technically open, but practically very controlled- online community. Sseth, on the one hand, exposed this very niche game to a huge audience. In the words of one of the game devs responding to accusations that the devs were all furry communists- “only some of us are furry communists” That community was always a very pro LGBTQ+ place along with being very left/anit-fascist politically. It’s worth pointing out that the discord had strict vetting rules already and the mod team (including most of the game’s dev team iirc) weren’t afraid to use the ban hammer to enforce their community guidelines But the Sseth fans absolutely brigaded (incompetently because they tend to be young) both this discord and this subreddit and god was it annoying. This is the reaction that everyone (myself included) who was around when it happened but had no use for the discord had.
